Winter is well and truly here and while the Christmas lights have got us feeling festive, the dark mornings can make it harder to get up and, with our bodies craving warmth and substance, sticking to a clean and healthy diet is easier said than done.

As we know, the winter months are characterised by cold weather, dark nights, and a heavy nature. These traits are associated with Vata and Kapha. According to Ayurveda, those individuals who are more dominant in the Kapha dosha or Vata dosha typically feel the effects of winter more than Pitta doshas.

Stick to a sleep routine

We know this isn’t always easy during the winter - especially when the festive season begins. But, regulating your sleep - and trying to go to bed and rise earlier - can do wonders for your health, mentally and physically. Ayurvedic experts say routine is essential for bringing balance into your life and getting an optimum amount of sleep will also give you that much-needed energy boost which is crucial around this time of year.

Enjoy home-cooked foods 

It’s completely normal to crave hearty and wholesome dishes in the winter and Ayurveda says now is the time to enjoy warm and well-cooked meals. Think stewed fruits with cinnamon, porridge, and vegetable soups. You could even include a few nourishing drinks into your daily routine like Turmeric Tea.
